Goblet with Bands (Passglas)
Germany; 16th c.
It is a combination of raised decoration applied in the late Gothic manner with the new massivity suitable for large pieces of glassware. It represents a new form of expression completely the opposite of the airy lightness of Venetian glass. There is a banded goblet in the Cologne Kunstgewerbemuseum.
