The Holy Trinity
Veneto-Byzantine icon; 15th c.
This icon explains the Christian dogma according to which God is one, but embodies three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Christ sent the apostles to teach and baptize all people in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The voice of God came out of the open skies during the baptism of Christ: This is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased, and the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove descended upon Christ.
