Sword and Scabbard Showing Jan III Sobieski of Poland

The front of the scabbard is made from a single piece of ivory. In the centre on an oval medallion there is the profile of an older man and above it the inscription JOHANN SOBIESKI and the coat of arms of the kingdom of Poland (in use from 1386) surmounted by a royal crown. There are two allegorical female figures and ornaments of acanthus leaves.
