Jewelry Casket
Limoges; ca. 1540 ;
Pierre Reymond?
(ca. 1513 - after 1584)
A gilded bronze frame was mounted on the wooden base of a casket into which were inserted copper panels painted in enamel in the grisaille technique. The rich ornamentation of the frame is full of details in the Mannerist style: pillars with capitals, legs shaped like herms, engraved trophies and intricate vine-like and floral ornaments.
